Bmitzvah are significant events in a family’s life. They are a celebration of a child’s coming of age, a time to rejoice with family and friends. Bmitzvah is not the goal of Jewish education, but it is an important milestone for children as they become full members of the Jewish community.
The JLCMW is comprised of both affiliated and unaffiliated students. Each congregation has its own policies and bmitzvah expectations. If you would like your child to become a bar/bat mitzvah at one of the participating congregations, please contact the synagogue office or rabbi directly. We are also working on creating a bmitzvah program for unaffiliated students.
The JLCMW provides many opportunities to learn to decode Hebrew and to read and chant portions of the Saturday morning Shabbat service. How proficient students become is directly related to the amount of time they spend practicing at home. For most students, the bulk of the bmitzvah preparation will take place with the assistance of a private tutor. Each of our participating congregations has its own way of handling the bmitzvah instruction.
